In my early teens, I started exploring yoga and meditation to help me feel more comfortable in my skin and to embody the qualities that my mom possessed: grace, compassion, patience, agility, joy and wisdom. The first four yoga classes I attended, I did NOT resonate with, to say the least! I thought yoga was boring and unrelatable. I was about to give up and move on when my mom showed me an incredibly inspiring video of Ashtanga yogi David Swenson moving through the most jaw-dropping, dynamic yoga sequence I had ever seen. The athleticism, the focus, the breath…THIS is what I had been searching for! I travelled to South Lake Tahoe and completed my teacher training with David at the age of 18. 23 years later ashtanga is near and dear to my heart, I have learned an astounding amount from many other styles such as Anusara, Iyengar, Kundalini, Yin and Restorative. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that yoga is not one-size-fits-all and that different styles and approaches suit different personality types and constitutions.
